My bathroom is my sanctuary. At the end of the day, I look forward to stepping onto the heated tiles (I know, so spoiled!), washing the day off my face, lathering on a thick moisturizer, and knowing bedtime is near. And in the mornings? I love splashing my face with cold water, taking my vitamins, and knowing that my coffee is just a staircase away. These rituals ground the beginning and end of my day, and bring joy into the small moments.
I seek out meaning and joy with the brands that I support as well. The beauty products tucked into my shelves and drawers reflect my values. I’ve got a mix of labels lining the shelves… some from the drugstore, some from my dermatologist, and many from Black-owned brands I love to support. Come take a peek at my bathroom (s)heroes from Black-owned brands.
And I decided to write my product reviews as haikus, both for fun and to stretch my creative muscles. This idea popped into my head on a recent morning walk, and I couldn’t resist following the whim. In case seventh grade English feels like a lifetime ago, a haiku is three lines with five syllables, then seven, then five again.
Let me know if I counted wrong… or better yet, drop your own haiku in the comments!
